Stroke Association

Campaign Collaborator

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke, which can leave survivors unable to move, see, speak, or even swallow. With strength, determination and the right support, recovery is possible.

The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

It’s only thanks to the generosity of our supporters and donors that we can provide that vital support

100,000 people have strokes each year and there are 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, a number which the Stroke Association expects to double by 2035.

A stroke can happen to anyone, at any time, which is why the Stroke Association are encouraging everyone to understand the factors which play a part in causing strokes, with high blood pressure being the biggest risk factor for stroke. .

According to the Stroke Association, high blood pressure is a contributing factor in around half of all strokes and many could be prevented if people monitored and managed their blood pressure regularly.

“High blood pressure is preventable and can be reduced by reducing your sodium intake. Our primary source of sodium is salt, so reducing your salt intake will in turn reduce incidence of high blood pressure, and therefore stroke.

However, we know how hard it can be to cut out salt completely, which is why we’re supporting the Season With Sense campaign to help educate on small measures which could help – such as using a reduced sodium salt like LoSalt when cooking and seasoning.

Stroke is the fourth biggest killer in the UK, and the UK’s leading cause of disability, so we need to do everything that we can to avoid unnecessary death and disability.

Working with the Season With Sense campaign allows us to combine our strengths to help create a healthier nation, by sharing tips and ideas for small changes which can make a big difference to our health – both for now and in the future.”
